Before entering the world of fine arts, Gonneke studied Dutch Language and Literature at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She obtained her MA in 1991 and worked at the Museum of Dutch Literature in The Hague. During an introductory course in ceramics in 1992 she discovered clay and its versatility and switched career in 2000. She developed her skills and her own signature under the guidance of Dutch ceramic artists Victor Benckhuizen, Arjen Bakermans and Henk Wolvers.
From 2008-2012 she lived in Singapore and worked at the Jalan Bahar Clay Studios, a National Heritage site and pottery area. She exhibited in solo as well as group exhibitions and is one of the founding members of DAiS, a platform for Dutch Artists in Singapore (2011).
She was granted an artist-in-residence period at Singapore Sculpture Square which resulted in a solo exhibition in 2012. Gek Hong taught her the Ming porcelain painting method.
A master class by Therèse Lebrun in 2014 introduced her to working with paper clay. It allows her to enhance her work with delicate details of vegetation.
Her works have been collected in The Netherlands and Singapore.
